🤔 What is DeFi?
DeFi or "decentralized finance" is an emerging technology sector building financial services on top of blockchains or cryptocurrency technology.
Just as Venmo, Revolut, Robinhood, Stripe, and other fintech companies have built consumer friendly apps on top of the banking system, DeFi gives users those same types of apps but built on top of blockchain. Building on top of blockchain is often easier and cheaper to do because it's a "clean slate", without all the complexities and legacy infrastructure of the banking system.
DeFi is a new parallel financial system for a digital-first world, imagining and engineering financial services as if the internet has always been around and everyone has a super computer in their pocket. This digital-first approach allows for financial services and apps that have many cost, efficiency, transparency, and equality advantages over the traditional banking system (TradFi).
